A Resilient Spirit and a Glass Eye
Jonathan grew up in the Charleston area and was known for being a hard worker who would do anything for anyone. At just eight years old, he survived a harrowing accident where he was shot in the eye, leading him to live the rest of his life with a prosthetic glass eye. Despite the injury, he remained a resilient child who returned to playing football only a year later. His mother remembers him as a country boy who loved simple things like gardening and stringing green beans.
“He was a great kid, wonderful person— he would do anything for anybody.”
The Cold Night of January 12th
Life took a difficult turn as Jonathan struggled with addiction to crystal meth and heroin, which changed the happy boy his family knew into someone they barely recognized. On January 12, 2024, during a period of intense hallucinations, Jonathan left his home on Avon in a confused state. He was last seen wearing a hoodie and pants that belonged to a brother he had lost four years prior. Since that freezing winter night, there has been no sign of where he might have gone.
“I filed a missing person report because he was not in the right state of mind when he left.”
Seeking Any Lead in the River City
The only major discovery in the case so far has been Jonathan’s clothing, which was found near the water tower by the City Park Apartments. This location is close to the Kanawha River, where Jonathan had previously jumped during a similar crisis months before. His mother, Ellen, continues to search the streets and contact authorities, refusing to let her son be forgotten despite the lack of new leads. She asks that anyone who might have seen something near the Charleston amphitheater that night come forward with information.
“I just want my son back. All I want is for somebody to please come forward, your name will be anonymous.”
