Into the Deep Dark
In late 2018, a 38 year old coal miner named Wes Blackburn disappeared from the small town of Oceana, West Virginia. The case began on a cold November night when a long-sealed mine was broken into. While his friends were arrested at the scene, Wes seemed to vanish into thin air. Security footage from a local gas station showed Wes earlier that night, but his mother believes the video actually shows him already deceased in the passenger seat of his own car.
“In Boone County, West Virginia there is a mine that was sealed more than 20 years ago, that seal was broken and a man allegedly walked into the darkness.”
The Story That Does Not Add Up
Authorities initially suspected Wes was inside the mine to steal copper wire. However, Wes was suffering from a severe infection in his hand that made it impossible for him to even hold a cigarette. It is hard to imagine how he could have been stripping heavy cables in such a dangerous environment with only one working hand. When his car was eventually found on the mine property, his tools and wallet were still inside, which only added to the confusion.
“I’ve never cut copper but if you cut anything you need two hands to cut it and actually when we went to his car all the knives was laying right there in the dashboard.”
Whispers and Deleted Messages
The mystery took an even darker turn when text messages started coming from Wes’s phone weeks after he went missing. His mother watched in real time as the sender deleted the messages one by one after she replied. Since then, the family has been plagued by horrific rumors involving drug debts and violent ultimatums. Despite a $10,000 reward and an offer of immunity for information, the truth remains buried somewhere in the Appalachian hills.
“I’ve had phone calls of people explaining things, explain what they done to him in detail and people they saw and stuff but none of it’s been followed up on.”
The rabbit hole goes much deeper than a blog post can capture. To hear the chilling details of the phone calls and see the evidence for yourself, you need to experience the full story in the original video.
