Stepping into the Heart of the Game
The event kicked off in Flatwoods, West Virginia, which is a significant location for fans because it is exactly where the journey begins in the game Fallout 76. People traveled from all across the country, including states like Texas, Georgia, and Utah, to gather at Holly Gray Park and the nearby KOA. The atmosphere was filled with friendly faces and a shared love for the franchise, proving that the real Appalachia is just as welcoming as the one found in the game world, minus the mutated monsters.
“It’s wild wonderful West Virginia. A lot of friendly people, a lot of good food. Make sure to get out and see the sights because there’s so much to behold, a lot to be offered.”
The Art of the Apocalypse
One of the most impressive aspects of the Jamboree was the incredible level of detail found in the cosplay and prop builds. From 3D printed anti-material rifles to outfits constructed entirely of metal and leather, the creativity on display was next level. Some creators used clever materials like styrofoam and cardboard to make weapons that look identical to heavy iron, while other dedicated fans lugged around gear weighing up to 90 pounds just for the sake of immersion.
“This is all made out of styrofoam and cardboard. That’s incredible. I built this in about 2 weeks when I was unemployed.”
For the Love of the Fandom
Beyond the cool gear and the iconic setting, the event focused on making connections and supporting the local community. The Fallout for Hope initiative organized a food drive for the Mountaineer Food Bank, allowing fans to trade canned goods or monetary donations for authentic bottle caps. It was a unique chance for people to step out of their daily lives and enjoy a peaceful, celebratory gathering with others who share their deep passion for the wasteland.
“When you get to check out into something like this it really makes a special day. Hope y’all enjoyed. And always remember, above all else, long live Appalachia.”
